Dr. Tala Karkar Esperat
"Promoting Self-Discovery Through Semiotics"
About
Dr. Tala Michelle Karkar-Esperat is a bilingual teacher educator, researcher, and curriculum designer. Her compassion for teaching and learning evolved early in her life as a youth leader, elementary teacher, librarian, and teacher educator. Her vision started with developing the Pedagogical Holistic Model of New Literacies, followed by the Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Multiliteracies (PCKM) Survey Instrument. Her work in the classroom and preparing preservice teachers inspired her to change the dynamics and direction through the use of semiotics. In 2021, she became the first to create and publish the Raciosemiotic Architecture Framework®, which has been presented and shared at both national and international conferences since October 2021. Following her original work, she designed the MultiSemiotic Architecture Framework® in 2022. Based on her original work on these frameworks, she created a guide to teachers’ success through sharing her empathy for both students and teachers who now recognize her as the leading authority on raciosemiotic architecture and MultiSemiotic architecture frameworks.

Teaching Multilingual Students Through Culture and Language
This book serves as a professional development guide designed for elementary school teachers to help them center multilingual and bilingual students’ language and culture in the classroom by recognizing and harnessing their students’ assets through semiotics and self-discovery. Its purpose is to promote compassionate education, fostering empathy and connection to students’ identities in response to the known problem of student disengagement and the challenges in teaching reading and writing.
